Leaving Rose Hills

Leaving Rose Hills is in reference to Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, claimed to be the largest cemetery in North America. Growing up in southeast LA, I often passed the Rose Hills sign, which became a familiar landmark of the area. The stars in this piece symbolize those I’ve lost, loved ones who have passed away and, in my imagination, leave Rose Hills transformed into stars, transcending the natural world and entering a beyond.
